It has been a tremendously challenging journey, but it is immensely rewarding. The theremin is absolutely deceptively difficult to play with musical precision and finesse.Clara Rockmore, the foremost virtuoso of the theremin introduced it to the world as a serious musical instrument. Over the course of recent music history, this expressive voice was forgotten. Watch/listen to electronic music pioneer Robert Moog discuss this very subject in a video entitled “bob moog cnn” in my video favorites section. I feel it’s definitely time to reconnect with the roots of the instrument. With these classical theremin videos, I hope to light the way back home. It lets you search for an artist and created editable playlists of videos, which you can then view or embed, like any playlist: It’s a useful tool. One big flaw is that you can’t watch a playlist in fullscreen – YouTube switches to the Web view after each video. Give it a try and let me know what you think of YouTube Disco.
Peter Pringle performs Jacques Brel’s Le Plat Pays . via copperleaves : This is Belgian singer/songwriter Jacques Brel’s anthem about his country. He originally wrote the song in French but recorded it in both French and Dutch. Brel was one of the first popular singers to use the instrument known as the “ondes martenot” in his songs and it was an important part of the special feeling of this song. I do not play the ondes so I have used its sister instrument, the theremin, instead. I first heard this song in the summer of 1963 and fell in love with it

Sunday Synth Jam : Pyrolator’s Snow In Bushwick. via pyrolator : This is my first piece for the Manta, an instrument by Jeff Snyder (snyderphonics.com). It is triggering two instruments (collision and omnisphere) and a pre-programmed bass (audio-clip) in Ableton Live. The setup uses touch-sensitive note-triggering and the X-Y multitouch-parameters at the same time and is written in max/msp. Recorded Jan 8th in Bushwick, Brooklyn during some snowfall in front of my window…….
