i am considering getting a synthesizer to play for fun (i.e. to make beats, songs, and stuff). i’m looking for one around $400, and so far the microkorg or microkorg xl seem to be the front runners in my internet search. BUT i am a total beginner and have no clue on a couple of issues: what kind of speakers or amps should i be looking for to go with the synth? is it possible to get one for relatively cheap? will the microkorg let me record songs? i know the xl has a usb connection. does this mean i can save beats i make up to my computer? or this solely for the convenience of making patches with computer software rather than on the synth itself? do the korgs let you play more than 1 key simultaneously? i’ve also looked at the microx. this seems to me more like a regular keyboard than an actual synth like the others, with presets sounding like real instruments. is this a fair assessment? I appreciate any answers and extra advice for my synth selection!
well, im really passionate about music. and i’d like to do some myself. i would love to record my acoustic guitar and some vocals on my pc. so, what equipment and program do i need for that? and if i’d like to add some electronic touch to it what would i need? a synthesizer? and if than what kind?i was thinking about recording some sounds of the street too, but i dont really know what kind of recorder would be good enough to get the work done. i have so many questions and everything i found on the internet sounds so complicated! help me please, i would love to get started

The sequencer can be synchronized with a midi clock or din sync signal using the MIDI IN and DIN IN inputs. The MIDI OUT provides quantized CV A notes for midi instruments. The sequencer has 7 types of buttons and sliders. Each type is outlined below. Specific types will be explained in following sections.

There’s a lot more you can do with the Noise Ring, but this is the stuff that falls into the instant-gratification category. This Frac Rack system also includes some Bananalogue and MOTM; over on the left is a small Doepfer system that, in this instance, I’m just using for the amplitude envelope and mixer.”

via this auction and this auction “Casio PT-7 (instrument with tiny polyphonic touch sensor keypad & analogue rhythm) This is clearly one of the most bizarre and innovative instruments created by Casio, because this tiny thing has a detachable keyboard with 29 soft touch foil keys, and this is not just a monophonic toy tablehooter but a real 8 note(!) polyphonic instrument with analogue rhythm and a small but high quality loudspeaker that makes a very respectable organ sound. This strange Casio invention permits special play techniques with very rapid glissandos and was one of the forgotten milestones in the struggle of overcoming the clumsy piano key relic on electronic consumer instruments. main features: * 29 tiny soft touch foil keys on a detachable slim line keyboard with short cable * built-in astonishing reasonable sounding small speaker * 8 notes polyphony * separate knobs for main and rhythm volume * tempo knob * 6 preset rhythms {waltz, samba, swing, slow rock, pops, rock} selected by a slide switch * 8 OBS preset sounds {piano, elec. piano, organ, pipe organ harp, accordion, clarinet, violin} selected by a 4-step slider + switch * main voice CPU “HD44140, 3G 13″ (56 pin SMD) with timbres based on multipulse squarewave tones with different digital envelopes, those are differently low pass filtered through capacitors

via Kyle Weiss in the comments of this post . ” This link has a noise-reducing modification that I’m going to give a try…” The link also mentions an old DOS based editor called the K5MP. The link appears to be from Sound Doctorin, who I’m guessing is this sounddoctorin . “K5MP FEATURES: * Runs on any IBM compatible with DOS 3.2 or higher, floppy DD and an MPU-401 compatible (UART) midi card. * Eases the process of becoming K5MP proficient, by providing COMPLETE MENUS, which prompt for all options available. * Allows you to create custom MACRO LIBRARY files, which help you generate complex sounds in minutes! A library file for each “page” of data on the K5 can be accessed. Just imagine selecting your favorite piano timbre without searching your patch libraries for the sound that contained that timbre, and then extracting it into your working patch. Setting up these libraries as you please will allow you to remove the obstacle which has kept your imagination from running wild on the K5! * Takes out the guess work when editing delays and envelopes by letting the user enter real times. (eg. trend of 4.2 sec.) * Provides logical and imaginative tools for creating timbres, a very efficient discrete harmonic entry utility, and a waveform plot utility. * Patch can be sent to or received from the K5 with one keystroke.”

It features 1 squarewave oscillator, which can either be free running in drone mode or triggered by the green pushbutton in trigger mode. The green toggle switch selects between ‘drone’ or ‘trigger’ mode. The green button allows you play the device rhythmically or in short bursts. The large knob sweeps the frequency of the oscillator. The yellow LED displays the rate of oscillation, and changes as you sweep the pitch. 6.35mm (1/4 inch) audio output 2.1mm 9v DC input (tip -) Rubber feet Metal faceplate painted caution yellow with high gloss clear coat. Breadboard has PIC16F727 (40 pin), a 512K SRAM with a couple of octal latches to drive the 19 address bits from a single 8 bit address bus, and an 8 bit DAC. Here I am just using the PIC’s built in ADC (not perfect for audio). Input is coming from an MP3 player (‘The City Sleeps’ by MC900Ft Jesus)”
